Correct

To upgrade the OS Windows Server must be upgraded in steps.

  • 2003 > 2008* > 2012R2 > 2016 > 2019

Incorrect – Data loss will occur

While possible, these upgrades will clean install the OS, NOT upgrade.

  • 2008* > 2016

*2008 is not supported (no mouse) on newer Hyper-V, use 2008R2

Before running setup from the media, run these:

  • D:\support\adprep\adprep /forestprep
  • D:\support\adprep\adprep /domainprep
