Prerequisites: The user that you are going to run the eDiscovery as must be a member of Mailbox Search Role and the Discovery Management Role Group (The discovery management Role Group will encompass the Mailbox Search Role) You will not see the eDiscovery or litigation hold options (The compliance management menu item on the left side of the EAC) unless you are a member of this group.<insert eDiscovery01.png>

Under in-place eDiscovery & Hold hit the “plus” icon.
Name the discover and provide a description
Under Sources you can specify all mailboxes or specific mailboxes.
Under Search Query you can include the entire contents of the mailboxes or list search parameters. See this article for details regarding the syntax used.
You can also limit the search to a specific time frame, specify to or from parameters as well as message types.
Lastly, you can specify a duration of the hold.

The EAC will give you statistics on the number of hits on each search term on the right side of the window.
When complete you can use the EAC to export the results to a pst file (The down arrow at the top of the interface as shown below) that you can review and also hand over to the lawyers.
